主要从事硅质碎屑岩的沉积环境、储层沉积学和层序地层学等方面的应用基础性研究。现在重点研究碎屑岩沉积演化及储层质量、页岩气的富集条件及成藏机理。

主持承担国家自然科学基金项目2项、中科院战略性先导项目子课题1项、 国家重大专项子课题2项(第二负责人)、中科院“西部之光”项目1项、中科院重点实验室基金项目1项和油田企业横向项目5项,累计经费达816.6万元。
